Member’s Interests:
- Reading – Even if he were not working in his position as a librarian, Fritz would still spend most of his time with his nose in a book. He enjoys what he gets out of the experience -- distraction from reality, able to immerse into an entirely new headspace just from scanning words on a page.
- Collecting – It is difficult for Fritz to part with things. His entire house is an empire of organized clutter. Despite having an excess of belongings Frederick still manages to know where everything is and can find what he needs in a moment’s notice. He particularly loves antiques. Fritz will often joke that it makes him feel younger to be surrounded by older things.
- Sailing – Though it isn’t often that he finds time to do so, Frederick enjoys spending time out on his boat upon Amenic’s expansive lake. It isn’t quite like being out on an open sea. He likes the quiet that being out in the middle of the water, apart from the world while floating in the center of it. Much of the time he will fish while out on the water. Fritz finds this the best place for him to think about problematic things that need solutions.

Member’s Aspirations:
- Success for the Amenic Project – Frederick has considerable hopes for the program. He might not be able to help every case but if just one or two people can be fixed as a result of his intervention then Fritz would be happy. It’s his hope that their research results might actually give a second chance to those who are considered beyond saving.
- Leaving Behind A Positive Memory – Knowing that he doesn’t have a considerable amount of time left he wants to make sure that the legacy he leaves behind is a good one. Fritz probably works so hard because of this. If he can make progress in the fields of how PTSD operates on the human psyche, then there’s a possibility that even after he is gone there will still be ways to help those afflicted with it.
- Learning How to Drive – Despite his age, and his knowledge on most things, for some reason Frederick has never mastered being able to operate a vehicle on land. Sailing is natural to him but he can be a terror behind the wheel of anything else. Fritz has spent his life getting around through alternate means because of this inability to master the art of driving. He has spent plenty of money on instruction and reading materials to no avail.
Member’s Fears:
- Discovery By the Subjects – When it seems that the Subjects might be growing acutely aware of the deceptions here, Fritz is the man that generally gets called in to fix the situation. He does this with hypnosis as his tool – though this is a tentative means to remedy things. If someone becomes unwilling to be swayed by his efforts then the entire project could start to topple with the domino effect of several fragile minds coming into awareness all at once. He also doesn’t want them to hate him for what he’s done to try to help them.
- Amenic Failing – The worst-case scenario would be that they have absolutely no success in saving anyone through the Amenic Project. A number of factors could go wrong with the project, not just with the Subjects but also if it were to be discovered what they were doing by governmental branches not privy to knowledge of the project. Fritz feels like they are on the verge of making some significant progress. Fear of something happening to compromise that is constantly on his mind.
- Illness – Considering his age, Fritz knows how vulnerable he is to sickness and infection. He is afraid that it he contracts something then it will handicap him to the point where he will be unable to proceed with his work. It is Frederick’s intention to peacefully pass on when his time comes, and doesn’t want to risk sickness taking him too early.
Member’s Behaviour:Frederick is a man of uncompromised character. His age and liftetime of experience has ingrained him with the capacity to perceive people and situations in a light different from younger individuals. He has been seasoned by the sum of events that have occurred in his life. Rather than being a man still open to new perceptions, Fritz is already tempered and complete – for better or worse. His system of beliefs is strong. Some might perceive this mistakenly as a stubborn quality of his nature yet it would be more accurate to say that Fritz is simply ‘set in his ways’. The facets of Frederick’s personality can be broken down into several obvious aspects:
Determination: Once Fritz has set himself upon a path, he does not divulge from it unless absolutely necessary. He prefers the most direct way to achieve his goals; situations just sometimes call for variations in that way of operating out of courtesy for other people. When Frederick makes up his mind then it is unlikely that he can be swayed to change it. And if he thinks that his efforts are going to end in good then Fritz will not be bent even in the face of insurmountable odds. It is not in him to quit; admitting defeat is like a form of blasphemy in his eyes.
Efficiency: There is a sense of order to every action that Frederick takes. He doesn’t move in a manner that leaves things up to chance. Fritz prefers to have a plan, or at least some bare boned structure in place before moving forward. This is reflected in his love for checklists, as Frederick is often known to enjoy creating them as much as someone might enjoy watching television. It isn’t that the man is incapable of spontaneity – it’s that Fritz rarely has felt the need to act impulsively. Many would expect that this must mean it would be easy to step in and follow him easily. Yet Frederick’s sense of natural order is not as simplistic as one would think. His logic oftentimes operates on a higher plane, so that that which seems illogical by the standards of other people sometimes ends up being ingenious in retrospect.
Educated: In terms of knowledge, Fritz has spent his life in search of education, and for that reason he can claim a high intellect above his peers. Frederick has not limited his knowledge to just academics either – though he is quite learned in terms of history, science, literature and mathematics. He has also worked hard to educate himself in terms of cultural awareness, for the love and appreciation of peoples dissimilar from his own. Fritz speaks several languages aside from his native German: English, French, Spanish and Italian to name a few. His preference for the literature from nations other than Germany shows a definite favoritism towards authors both English and French. If given the opportunity, Frederick would gladly spend hours discussing the profound subjects of philosophy or psychology. He is much enamored with the higher concepts of Man’s existence, and speculation upon the mysteries of Mankind brings him endless pleasure.
Good-Hearted: Though it might seem hypocritical given his involvement in the Amenic Project, Fritz is at his core a good man with a golden heart. He does not like to see others in pain nor does he care to act in any way that might bring pain to others. Fritz believes that what he does is good because he knows that the alternatives are far, far worse. Not that he always agrees with the tactics that his fellow coworkers use to get things done. Frederick has been at odds with his peers on multiple occasions in protest of their actions. He is the type of man that readily helps those in need – a gentleman that will give presents to the needy, regularly donate to charity, or make a little extra effort to make someone’s day better.
Trustworthy: Even with the deception that he must use in order to maintain the illusions of the Project, Frederick is actually a man that is safe to trust. He has been told that he has a ‘grandfatherly’ or paternal aura around him. There is sincerity in his eyes and smile that holds no trace of duplicity; Fritz doesn’t feel the need to mislead others when it comes to his feelings. He is someone that can keep secrets, a confidante that people find easy to talk to – even when they don’t intend to divulge such personal things about themselves. It causes him considerable guilt to have to lead a double life with the Subjects in Amenic, but much of the time even Fritz tends to forget that the role he is immersed into isn’t real.
Member’s Story: (A brief faux-history of their ‘cover’ life in Amenic. can be as short or as long as you so please, This is the story they will feed the Specimens they encounter)
Frederick was born in Berlin, Germany. He grew up there until he was old enough to enlist in the military. At that point in time he began to get stationed in posts internationally, due to his fluency in several languages and his ability to adapt to new environments. One of these posts was the base in Amenic. He served out his career before retiring from the military. Rather than return home to Germany, Fritz decided to make a home in Amenic. The town was pleasant, one that he had enjoyed considerably during his time there.
He used his retirement funds from the military to purchase a small house on the outskirts of the city. Frederick wanted to secure a job that he would enjoy, and there was conveniently an internship opened at the local library. So he took on the position and worked his way up, until Fritz had the longest running tenure of the place. He was appointed to the position of Head Librarian several years ago.
Fritz does do tutoring on the side. His name is well known amongst those in the University scene for him being such a resource of knowledge and support for those in education. Frederick also commonly visits the old base where he was once stationed to check on those on the post. He often likes to drop off books on military affairs that might be of interest to the soldiers there.
As far as community figures go, Old Fritz is the go-to guy when there’s trouble. He is a figurehead in Amenic’s community despite never having stepped up into any political form of leadership. It is said that even Amenic’s government officials tend to call him up in situations where Fritz’s support might be ideal. The old man takes this humbly, despite whatever pull he might have, and is never too busy to lend an ear to those who need it.
Most of the time, if he is not at the Library or the base, Fritz tends to haunt the coffee shop in the city. He can be found in animated conversation with other people or else be seen reading through whatever new books have come into the city so that he can better recommend them to those who are regular visitors to the Library.
Fritz has never married. He has no children, and doesn’t speak much of his family except to state that they are back home ‘in the old country’. There has been some speculation as to the nature of his sexual preferences but either Fritz is too discreet or simply doesn’t have any interest in such things at his age. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t a target of gossip, because there is something about the man that makes it seem like Frederick is keeping secrets.
Member’s History:
Frederick was born in East Berlin to a hardworking family. His father owned a steel factory that employed many workers but managed by the Walters family. It was expected that Frederick – nicknamed ‘Fritz’ by his relations to sort through the commonly shared family name – would grow up to take over that business from his father. However, Fritz demonstrated little interest in the idea of taking on that role. His tutors often reported to Fritz’s father that his intellect was keen, the young German child showing potential for becoming an advanced learner that might have prospects beyond such common work.
Fritz’s father decided, after the birth of the boy’s younger brother, that Fritz would be able to explore his education further. He was sent off to schooling in London. It was here that Fritz developed his love for English literature, and often traveled across the Channel to France where he immersed himself in the cultures of both countries. If circumstances had not changed then he probably would have remained in Great Britain to carry out with the rest of his life.
However, after receiving an alarming letter from his relatives back in Berlin, Fritz made the trip back home. There had been a disaster at the family factory that had resulted in an explosion. Considerable lives were lost. If that wasn’t enough, Fritz’s father fell into a bizarre mental condition afterwards. The psychologists that tended to him explained that the man was suffering from severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Fritz remained in Berlin to care for his father. The impact of seeing the man going through the process made a profound mark on Fritz from what he witnessed.
He decided that he would become a psychologist as well to see if he might find some means to help people going through situations similar to his father. Fritz altered the course of his education in order to achieve this goal; switching his schooling to a closer University in Austria that would provide him the resources he needed. Soon he’d managed to graduate with his credentials in hand. By that time, his father had passed away and the rebuilt business had transferred to Fritz’s younger brother.
Wanting to put his skills to the best use possible Fritz enlisted himself into the military as a psychologist. He was immediately exposed to soldiers who suffered from the same disorder as his father from traumatic experiences in the line of duty. Fritz started to compile research findings as he began expanding upon his knowledge of how the affliction worked. Through the military he succeeded in opening a clinic near the base where those with PTSD could come for counseling. Under his guidance, it became a success, and several other national military organizations adopted the model for their own use. By the time Fritz retired from the service he had already garnered an international reputation.
When the people behind the Amenic Project approached Fritz with the proposal of beginning a new program that would explore the lasting results of those who were afflicted and even adapted new personalities as a result of their traumatic histories, it very much interested him. Fritz was one of the leading psychologists that worked to get the Project started, along with a few more qualified researchers interested in other psychological aspects of the experiment. Once it seemed that the Project would benefit more from the personnel actually immersing themselves within the environment to better observe the interactions of the research subjects, Fritz was willing to volunteer himself as the Head Field Researcher that would operate within Amenic’s borders as the one who all the others would come to if problems arose.
Many of the HIDE operatives were nervous about the idea of exposing themselves to the risks of being amongst potentially dangerous subjects. Having seen some of the worst cases during his military career and knowing just how much risk there was, Fritz wasn’t overly bothered by this idea. Plus, it gave him a little comfort to ease his guilt over the deception of the Project. Fritz decided that if HIDE was going to make these subjects run through the maze to get their findings then it was only fair to be amongst them as well.
Reason For Participation: (Their personal reasons for wanting to participate in such a controversial project and being willing to give up practically their entire life, to dedicate themselves to the project)
